Patrol Shifts

Identity Theft

This tax season there has been an increase in the
number of identity thefts.  Citizens are finding out
while filing their taxes that refunds have already been
sent out by the IRS.  The burden to prove that the return
was fraudulent lies with the victim.
Identity theft reports can be made where the victim
resides.  Below is a link to the Stuart Police Department
Identity Theft Packet.  You are still encouraged to
report the crime to the police.  The packet has the
necessary forms for notifying the applicable organizations.
