City of Stuart to offer weekly cooking classes

It's not about rich ingredients, a fancy kitchen or complicated recipes that make a meal.

When it comes to cooking, its simplicity that matters, said to Chef Daniel Clark of Martin County.

"Multitasking and planning ahead is the key," Clark said. "No one wants to spend hours in the kitchen, including myself, there's some times that I just want to get in and get out, but still make a good healthy meal, and there are ways you can do that and I want to share how."

On Feb. 2, Clark and the City of Stuart kick off the EZ Cooking Academy, a program of weekly cooking classes for adults to learn basic culinary skills. Clark will lead the classes through live cooking demonstrations and group discussions and offer recipes that run the gamut from meat-and-potatoes meals to Mediterranean dishes.

"I want to teach some of the adults of the Treasure Coast community essentially a few of the cooking basics," Clark said. "I think the big issue that people have is that they don't know how to cook, or have the time, so they're reaction is to go out and get fast food or go out to a restaurant and eat."

The curriculum is based on Clark's cookbook, "EZ College Cooking Freshman 101," which he developed while attending the Culinary Institute of America. His goal is to make people comfortable in the kitchen.

"I walk them through the skills and walk them through each step," Clark said. "... I want to show them that this isn't that scary and cooking isn't something that you should be afraid of."
